Plants, Flowers, Grasses & Trees
With the gracious help of friends/members of The Prairie Enthusiasts, Nic Tippery (UW-W Professor), my friend Sarah Schultz, my brother Mike and others, we have two plant & tree lists below. One is the Universal FQA Assessment summary and the second a separate list with a little more detail on general location on the conservancy. Our adjusted FQA is 35.8 which is at the bottom of the "exceptional" categorization of 35+. My beef with the FQA is that it measures species diversity, not relative concentration. So while we have heart-leaf skullcap and some other high coefficient of conservatism plants, many of these are in the relatively modest woods, perhaps the only part of the conservancy to escape the farmer's plow in the past. Sweet clover can predominate and buckthorn and honeysuckle and patches of phragmites are constant battles to control. So we will keep trying to get better by managing invasives and taking any native seed plantings we can get!
